(Webster County) A jury has returned a guilty verdict in the trial of a northwest Iowa man accused of killing his mother and kidnapping another woman.
A Webster county jury deliberated for two hours before finding 21-year-old Kirk Levin guilty of 1st Degree Murder in the death his mother Marilyn Schmidt at her home in January. Levin was also found guilty of 3rd Degree Kidnapping in the case of
Jessica Vaga, a woman he met online.
Levin's attorney had argued the state failed to prove Schmidt's death was pre-meditated. The prosecution maintained it was an intentional act.
Sentencing is set for July.
