(WESTPHALIA) An Earling man was injured in a two vehicle accident in Shelby County this morning.
The Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred at around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of County Road F-32 and County Road M-16, two miles west of Westphalia. 39 year old Thomas Muenchrath, of Earling, had to be extricated from his vehicle after becoming pinned inside. He was transported by Life Net helicopter to Omaha for treatment of injuries.
According to the report, 48 year old Mark Schmitz, of Westphalia, was driving a Case 3330 Patriot sprayer, owned by Farm Service Coop of Defiance. Schmitz was stopped at the intersection, facing south, and pulled into the path of a westbound 2001 Peter Built tractor and trailer, driven by Muenchrath. Both vehicles collided in the intersection and came to rest on the southwest corner of the intersection. Both vehicles received extensive damage. Schmitz was uninjured.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Medivac Ambulance, Westphalia Fire Department, Panama Fire Department and Earling Rescue.
