(Des Moines) Gas Prices dropped about .20-cents last week in Iowa. Sunday a gallon of regular unleaded gas cost $3.82 a gallon compared to just over $4.00 the week before. AAA reports that Ethanol blends of gasoline are averaging $3.73 in Iowa,
According to the Omaha World Herald the closing of two major refineries, in Illinois and Indiana, for maintenance and refitting contributed significantly to prices increases in mid-May throughout the upper Midwest. The Illinois plant has signaled that it is re-opening, and the one in Indiana is expected to soon do the same.
The lowest gas prices can be found in the Southeast. The highest average prices primarily are in the upper Midwest region and Pacific Coast states.
