FREE SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM
(ATLANTIC) Atlantic students will be able to enjoy a free lunch again this summer. This is the second year the Atlantic school will be partnering with the YMCA to offer the free summer lunch program.
Food Service Director DeeAnne Schreiner told the Atlantic School Board Tuesday night that she received a lot of feedback from the program last year.
“The one comment that hit home to me the most probably was the comment ‘without this program I wouldn’t have had lunch today.’ It kind of reiterates the fact that there are kids in our community that really need a summer feeding program,” said Schreiner. “With that being said I just think it’s that important that we continue having it. We are approved for five years, this will be our second year for it.”
Schreiner says she has bids ready to go out to have food catered to the YMCA and she is hoping to get transportation lined up for this year.
“We received a $1,000 donation from the Presbyterian Church and they really want us to do some kind of transportation for the outlying areas of town,” said Schreiner.
Schreiner says the free summer lunch program will be held from June 1st to August 12th at the YMCA. The meals will be free to students up to age 18.
