(Des Moines) Karl Jungbluth meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says the Memorial Day weekend weather forecast is probably not what people want to hear.
“We do have a really good chance of thunderstorms through the weekend and we that temperatures during the day don’t look too bad with temperatures in the 70’s during the day and 50’s at night,” stated Jungbluth.
Jungbluth says what we have is a pattern that typically produces a lot of rainfall.
“These thunderstorms will travel west to east and if there is any bright side to that the rain will occur during the overnight hours into the morning and then if we are lucky the rain will break late morning and into the afternoon,” stated Jungbluth.
He says the good news is these thunderstorms don’t appear to be on the severe side. Right now the heaviest rain will be in the Des Moines, Cedar and Iowa River Basins with a little less rainfall in southwest Iowa.
