(Harlan) Michael P. Jones, funeral director and owner of Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Walnut, Avoca, and Persia, was installed as President-Elect of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association (IFDA) during the 133rd Annual IFDA Convention held May 14-16, 2013, at the Iowa State Center and Gateway Hotel in Ames, Iowa.
Jones, born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1968, moved with his family to Harlan, Iowa, in 1971. He gradu¬ated from the Harlan Community Schools in 1986, and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1990. After attending the Kansas City, Kansas Community College, he began his funeral career with his father at the Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan in 1992. In 2003, he became a partner in the Pauley Jones Funeral Homes with additional locations in Walnut, and Avoca, Iowa. Michael is very active in IFDA, serving as District 5 Governor from 2007 – 2011, Secretary-Treasurer from 2011 – 2012, and President-Elect from 2012 – 2013. He has three children: Camren and twins Keaton and Makenzie.
Jones was elected by his peers to serve a one-year term in this capacity and was installed into office by Immediate Past President Douglas D. Carlsen during the IFDA Presidential Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
This year’s Annual IFDA Convention featured highly regarded local and national funeral service speakers who presented current information on bereavement education, business and management practices, regulatory updates, technical skills and training and additional topics related to the funeral service profession. The Annual IFDA Convention provides funeral directors with a forum to receive and exchange information so they may return home with new ideas that will allow them to better serve the families in their communities.
The Iowa Funeral Directors Association “promotes and supports funeral service excellence©” by representing over 700 Iowa licensed funeral directors and 413 funeral home establishments throughout the state and promotes high standards within the field of funeral service through continuing education programs, legislative representation and service to Iowa communities.
