(Dayton) Police say a man they believe abducted two girls from a bus stop in Webster County yesterday, has been found dead, and one of the girls remains missing. Authorities say the body of 42-year-old Michael Klunder was found last night in rural Dayton. His cause of death has not been released, police are looking for 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard. She and a 12-year-old girl were taken from a Datyon bus stop yesterday afternoon. D-C-I Director Charise Paulson says Klunder may have lured the girls into his truck under false pretenses. The 12-year-old later escaped and was found when she walked out of the woods near a farmhouse. The search continies for Shepard.
"Law enforcement continues to follow leads following the discovery of Klunder including the search of a wide search area. Complicating the search was a number of factors including a large geographic area 75-100 square miles. The darkness as well as weather conditions prevented an air search until early this morning."
Investigators are also asking anoyne who might have seen or heard from Michael Klunder yesterday, especially late yesterday afternoon and into the evening, to contact the Webster County Sheriff's Office (515) 573-1410.
D-C-I Agents have been searching a stratford residence listed as Klunder's on the Iowa sex offender registry.
