AMU RELEASES FINAL ARTICLE ON ELECTRICAL RATES
(Atlantic) Articles published this week have advised customers that rates for electric service will be increasing over the next few years, and how AMU intends to move from being simply a supplier of electricity, to being a source of information, promoting and providing assistance on the efficient use of energy. We also described a new program called 2 Degrees 2 Save.
Here’s what needs to happen next: AMU needs to hear back from customers, to let us know whether you are willing to participate in 2 Degrees 2 Save. Postcard forms were mailed out yesterday, and are also being duplicated in today’s issue of the News-Telegraph. In order to make plans for installation of the smart thermostats, we need to quickly determine how many customers will opt to participate in the program.
Even if you do not opt to participate in the 2 Degrees 2 Save program, AMU asks that you complete and return the postcard, or, if for some reason you didn’t receive AMU’s mailing, the form published in this edition of the News Telegraph.
In order to make the program a bit more fun and rewarding for customers, and to encourage the prompt return of the post card forms, AMU will provide the following prizes:
1.) Every customer that returns a completed form by April 1, regardless of whether they mark the YES box or the NO box for participation in 2 Degrees 2 Save, will receive a certificate for 3 FREE Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL’s). Customers can bring the certificate to the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce office before its expiration date, and receive one 14 watt, one 19 watt, and one 23 watt CFL. These three CFL’s replace 60, 75 and 100 watt incandescent lamps, but use only about 25% as much energy. If all three CFL’s were used four hours a day, customers would reduce their usage by 250 kilowatthours a year, and save $17 to $18 per year.
2.) Every customer that returns, by April 1st, a completed form that includes a valid e-mail address will be entered into a drawing for choice of either a new Dell Inspiron laptop, or an Apple IPad.
AMU will communicate with customers participating in the 2 Degrees 2 Save program by e-mail whenever possible. Customers also will receive an electronic energy efficiency newsletter called “Bright Ideas”, containing tips on ways to conserve energy in homes and businesses.
3.) Every customer that returns a completed form by April 1st, and who qualifies and signs up to participate in the 2 Degrees to Save program, will be entered in a drawing for six prizes. The 1st Place prize will be a credit of $600 on your AMU utility account. Two second place prizes of $300 credit, and three third place prizes of $150 credit, will also be drawn. Winners will be announced in the News Telegraph.
The following are some typical questions customers may have about 2 Degrees 2 Save:
Q.) How do I know if I qualify to participate?
A.) If your home or business has central air conditioning, or an electric water heater, or both, you likely will qualify. There will be some instances where AMU determines that it is not prudent to control a particular AC unit.
Q.) What if I do not own my home or business building?
A.) Complete the form, including your signup for the program, and indicate that you are a renter. Please provide the owner’s name and telephone number. AMU will seek permission from the landlord to install thermostats or switches.
Q.) If AMU turns my thermostat up, won’t I get uncomfortable?
A.) Studies by other companies indicate that most people don’t find a two degree swing in room temperature to cause major discomfort. It is important that customers understand that AMU will only control the air conditioners for a few hours during the hottest days of the summer. If you do find the discomfort to be too extreme, contact AMU, and we can approach control of your air conditioner in a different way. The smart thermostats provide for a number of different options for control.
Q.) When will I get my free CFL’s?
A.) AMU will mail out certificates for the free CFL’s, in batches, beginning in early April. Notices will be sent out in batches of about 500, about two weeks apart, so that we don’t have several thousand customers coming in within a short time. We also need some time to determine how many CFL’s will be needed, and get them ordered and delivered.
Q.) When will the drawing be held for the IPad or Dell laptop? And when will the winner get the prize?
A.) AMU plans to conduct this drawing on April 18th. Assuming normal delivery times, the winner should receive the prize within a week or two after the drawing.
Q.) When will the participants-only drawing for AMU bill credits be held?
A.) Since it will take some time to sort through responses and “pre-qualify” parties, AMU’s tentative plan is to conduct this drawing on May 16th. After the drawing is conducted, AMU may visit the site of each winning entry, to determine that the customer is eligible. It is expected that the prizes will be announced by not later than June 1st.
