CPC APPROVES CHAMBER FUNDING REQUEST FOR RAGBRAI
(ATLANTIC) The Community Promotion Commission approved a $10,000 request from the Atlantic Chamber for RAGBRAI.
Chamber Executive Director Ann McCurdy said it has been 10 years since RAGBRAI has gone through Atlantic. She said this is a very expensive endeavor and it can cost anywhere from 75 to 150-thousand dollars to put on RAGBRAI. However, McCurdy said the event benefits everyone in the county.
“Everybody in this community, everybody in the county, pays into local option sales tax, which is where your budget comes from. In turn, everybody is going to benefit from this boom that we’ll have that day. All of your gas stations, restaurants, convenience stores, churches, all of these people are going to be seeing a good day in return. Again, that is just going to help boost that local option sales tax,” said McCurdy. “It’s that cyclical relationship, if we can do things that are going to help grow that local option sales tax this Committee has more funds to work with to do more things like that. We think it’s a great project, we’re very excited about it.”
The CPC agreed to fund $5,000 out of the current budget and $5,000 out of the reserve from next year’s budget.
