(Jefferson) Two trains derailed in Greene County, east of Grand Junction shortly after 6:00 a.m. today, according to the Greene County Sheriff Steven Haupert.
"One was an eastbound coal train. The westbound train which I call a box car train had the cargo containers. Those tracks had just been worked on several weeks ago. It looks as if the coal train had tipped for some reason and caused a derailment."
No injuries were reported, but there is coal all over the place. P-46 is closed east of Grand Junction while the mess is cleared. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says about seven cars on the coal train are off the track and 13 cars of the intermodal train which carries ocean-going containers on flatbed cars derailed.
