(Des Moines) In a Big announcement at the State Capital…Mid America Energy announced a $1.9 billion investment in Iowa.
The plan will add 600 new wind turbines to the state bring in over 460 construction jobs, 48 permanent positions and reduce future energy rates for Mid America customer of 10-million by 2017.
Governor Terry Branstad says low cost energy and diversified portfolio have been an important part of the success formula attracting significant capitol investments to the state.
“Just two weeks ago facebook announced that they will build a state of the art data center in Altoona,” stated Branstad. “Iowa’s leadership in the wind energy industry is a great selling point in the conversations we are having with these high tech companies. They want to have a green portfolio and Iowa is no longer overlooked.”
Mid America Officials said no sites have been selected yet, but they hinted the sites would be in northwest Iowa and south of Interstate 80 in western Iowa.
