(CORNING) The Johnny Carson Birthplace home in Corning is just about ready for visitors.
The home has been in the restoration process for quite some time. Roger Sorensen, Johnny Carson Birthplace Society President, said the home had the foundation redone, siding restored, they opened the front porch that was closed in, they put in time-period wallpaper, restored the woodwork on the inside and they are working on finishing the natural floors.
“The house is really amazingly in good shape for its age and the different owners and renters that it’s had in the past,” said Sorensen.
Sorensen said once the home is completely finished they hope to build a visitation center.
“Show the monologues and so forth when tour groups come there, maybe have a little mini theatre there and a lot of his memorabilia and we are acquiring that daily,” said Sorensen. “It’s a fun project and looking forward to the next phase of it.”
The plan is to have the Johnny Carson Birthplace home open by Memorial Day weekend. A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held later this summer or early fall.
