(Atlantic) Atlantic Fire Fighters were called to a truck fire at R & B Feeds in Atlantic Thursday evening.
Atlantic Police Chief Mark Mcnees says Atlantic Police Officer Dave Erickson was making his rounds. and discovered flames beside a building at R & B Feeds in Atlantic at around 9:15 p.m.
“When we got on scene all we could see was a glow coming from the back and a lot of smoke and we couldn’t really tell if the truck was on fire… the building was on fire…or a big truck or one of the tanks,” stated Mcnees. “Once we got it knocked down we could tell what we were dealing with.”
“The engine heater cord plugged into the diesel pickup shorted out and started the engine compartment on fire,” explained Mcnees. “The truck had been plugged in since yesterday. They were trying to keep it warm so they could use it tomorrow. The truck was in between some other delivery trucks and bulk tanks and it was kind of hidden so it is a good thing the Officer spotted the fire when he did.”
Mcnees says the fire didn’t get inside the building, but the pickup was a total loss.
The Atlantic Fire Department was assisted by the Atlantic Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Medivac ambulance and Cass County Emergency Management.
