(Atlantic) Atlantic residents may notice an increase in the sewer rates beginning July 1. Atlantic City Administrator Doug Harris says the proposed increase is needed to pay for the debt service on the new waste water treatment plant.
“Starting next year we will have the full cost of the debt service on that project,” stated Harris. “We also had a $34,000.00 increase in our sewer billing fees. So right now we are looking at a 5.5-percent rate increase.”
Harris says for residents using the base 3,000 gallon per month the cost will increase from $27.00 to $28.50 per month.
Harris admits it’s too early to tell but, sewer rates may actually decrease after that.
“We haven’t had a full year of operation but there maybe a possibility that the increase might go down to three-percent and two-percent the next year.”
The sewer billing proposal will now be sent to the finance committee for review.
