(Atlantic) There is interest in building a restaurant and sports bar on the lot at 314 Walnut Street.
Jacob Weitzel, A 2000 graduate of Atlantic High School told the Atlantic City Council Wednesday night that he is interested in purchasing the former Atlantic Hotel site for $30,000. Weitzel says he plans to build a restaurant and sports bar at that location with the possibility of adding future stories to the building for office space and apartments.
“The recent closing of the Farmer’s Kitchen and Mainstreet Grill has left downtown Atlantic with a huge lack of dining,” stated Weitzel. “We want our restaurant to be a great dining experience providing customers with their favorites as well as diverse cuisine found no where else in our area.”
Wietzel said, “Our goal is to enhance downtown Atlantic with a premier sports bar that is to be the go to venue for not only watching major sporting events but also for fun leisure dining and entertainment during the week and weekend.”
“There is also a lack of office space for new businesses wanting to come to town especially in the downtown area,” said Weitzel. “Our focus for the second floor is to lease office space.”
Weitzel told the city council that another level would be used to build six-to-eight luxury condos, that he feels is needed in the downtown area.”
The City Council suggested that the sale should be conditioned on the City having the first right of refusal to buy back this parcel at the original sale price if a building is not erected on the site within a certain time frame.
The next step will be a public hearing on the sale of the property.
