(ATLANTIC) A male subject involved in a high speed chase in southern Cass County Tuesday morning faces several traffic citations.
The suspect was a 54 year old resident at Willow Heights. His name has not been released. Cass County Chief Deputy Sheriff John Westering says the suspect faces charges for stop sign violations, unsafe passing, speeding, reckless driving and failure to maintain control. He said it is undetermined if criminal charges will be filed at this time.
The call came in at around 10:53 a.m. The suspect stole a Dodge Intrepid, owned by Darcy and Jon Schwanke, who were fixing a fence near the care facility. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle several times during the chase, which reached speeds of around 80 mph. At one point the suspect ran a semi off the road. The pursuit ended around 30 minutes later when officers used their cruisers to stop the vehicle. The stolen vehicle went into the ditch at Highway 71 and Newport road, south of Atlantic. There were no injuries reported and only minor damage to the vehicles.
