(Atlantic) A male subject who stole a car from Willow Heights this morning led law enforcement on a 30-minutes pursuit in southern Cass County.
Cass County Chief Deputy Sheriff John Westering says the call came in at around 10:53 a.m. The caller reported that a male resident of Willow Heights took a maroon Dodge Intrepid and fled the area.
“Officers tried to stop the car on several occasions, however the driver was passing officers and running them off the road,” stated Westering. “At one point while northbound on Highway 71, at speeds of around 80 miles per hour, the suspect went head on and forced a semi off the road, so at that point we decided we weren’t going to let him get into the Atlantic City limits.”
So Westering says they used their cruisers to try and stop the stolen vehicle. The pursuit ended about 30-mintes later when the stolen vehicle went into the ditch at Highway 71 and Newport Road south of Atlantic.
“The first attempt failed but the second attempt did not,” said the Chief Deputy, “There was minor damage to both vehicles, everyone was safe, no injuries, so it turned out as good as it could.”
Charges are pending at the time of this release.
