(Atlantic) State climatologist Harry Hillaker says the 4.5” of rainfall recorded in the Atlantic area for the month of April is ¾ of an inch above normal. Other portions of the state received even more precipitation.
"Actually a few places has as much as 10" of rain during the month."
The statewide average was over 6.5” which is a new record. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, rainfall for Atlantic this April is only slightly higher than last year.
"In April of 2012 there were 4.11" inches compared to 4.58" this year, so a little higher than a year ago, but not all that much different. It turned out to be one of the few wet periods we had all year long."
Hillaker adds that some portions of far Southwest and far Northwest Iowa are the lone two areas that may not have been above average for the month.
