(ATLANTIC) An Atlantic man involved in a stabbing in January was sentenced to prison today.
Judge Richard Davidson sentenced 18 year old Bryce Baker to a term not to exceed 5-years in prison on an amended charge of Willful Injury. The charge stems from a stabbing incident on January 28th in Atlantic. Police were called to an area near 1011 Birch Street where they found 43 year old Robert Leslie suffering from puncture and slashing wounds.
Baker’s attorney Jay Mez told the judge this morning that Baker had been dating Mr. Leslie’s daughter and Leslie did not agree with the relationship. Baker went to Leslie’s home to “settle things” and that’s when the altercation occurred. Baker told the judge that the stabbing occurred out of self defense because Leslie had a weapon. He said he used a pocket knife to protect himself.
Baker entered a plea of guilty last month. In addition to the prison sentence, Baker was given credit for time served. He was ordered to pay restitution, attorney fees and court costs. A no contact order with the victim was also issued.
Baker was arrested along with 21-year-old Austin Nelson and 23-year-old Mykel Thoren. Nelson and Thoren were each charged with Accessory after the Fact and were given two year suspended prison sentences.
