(Exira) The Special Election for the re-organization of the Exira and Elk Horn Kimballton school districts was officially set this morning. Last week the Elk Horn-Kimballton School Board officially set June 25 as the date for the Special Election, the Exira School Board made it official this morning.
“June 25 is the date when both school districts will go to the polls to make these school districts into one if the vote goes through, “stated Schnoes.
The two districts are currently under a whole-grade sharing agreement and Schnoes says nothing will physically change if it goes through, except for property taxes.
“We are allowed to pass along a property tax deduction to our patrons of one-dollar if this goes through,” explained Schnoes. “Then it will slowly increase over a three-year period to the standing $5.45 per thousand.
Schnoes says re-organizing will allow for a bigger district, they will keep both buildings running, have one set of financial books, one hand book ect…
