(ATLANTIC) Realtors in the Atlantic area are seeing a shortage of homes for sale.
Melissa Ihnen, Broker/Owner of Meyer and Gross Real Estate in Atlantic, said a big reason for this is probably because interest rates have been so low for so long.
“A lot of people that have rented, they’ve taken advantage of that,” said Ihnen. “They can have a house of their own for less of a payment each month than what their rent is because our rental market is also extremely tight and that has been for probably three years or more.”
Ihnen says this is a great time to sell a home. She said they are seeing an increase in the values of homes and there are a lot of buyers out there waiting to find the right one.
“When a home comes on the market it gets shown multiple times in that first week to two and we’re seeing a lot of them get offers right away because there are so many people that are just kind of waiting and have been looking,” explained Ihnen “So they know what they want they are just waiting in the wings for them to come up.”
Ihnen said there are 70 to 75 homes for sale in the Atlantic area and that includes approximately 25 homes that already have an accepted offer. She said the homes currently for sale range in price from just under 20-thousand dollars to 280-thousand dollars.
