(Des Moines) The Iowa Senate has voted to allow Iowans to renew their driver’s licenses online. Maquoketa Democrat Todd Bowman says it’s the top priority for the Iowa D-O-T this year.
“The department wants to increase efficiency by decreasing wait time for Iowans,” stated Bowman. “They also believe this will be very cost effective in the long run saving $1.2 million from the Road Use Tax Fund.”
It would allow drivers between 18 and 72-years of age to renew driver’s licenses through State Department of Transportation’s website without passing a vision test. Under current law, drivers can renew only at a county treasurer or D-O-T office. The bill was amended by the Senate to make corrections so it goes back to the Iowa House.
