(Atlantic) For the 18th consecutive year Atlantic has received the “Tree City U.S.A.” award. Dolly Bergman, of the Atlantic Trees Forever group presented the Atlantic City Council with the award Wednesday night.
“This is something that many communities should take a lot of pride in and you should take a lot of pride in this,” stated Bergman. “Because there is only 89-communities in the state of Iowa that qualified for Tree City U.S.A., so I think you are pretty much in a minority.”
Bergman says in order to qualify for such a designation a city must have a Tree Board or Department, Tree Care Ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2.00 per capita, and an Arbor Day observation and proclamation.
