AMERICA’S FARMERS GROW COMMUNITIES PROGRAM WINNERS ANNOUNCED
(Area) The national launch of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, has been an outstanding success with nearly 50,000 farmers signing up.
The area winners receiving the awards include Bobby Lents, of Greenfield. He chose the Greenfield Fire Department as the recipient. William Hardisty chose the Corning School District, Kevin Hinners of Exira; the Brayton Fire Department, and Duane Diest of Audubon. His recipient has yet to be determined.
The program allows farmers to register to win $2,500 for their favorite community nonprofit organization, such as FFA, 4-H, schools, fire departments and other civic groups. One winner will be selected in each of 1,204 eligible counties in 38 states.
For every farmer who applies, Monsanto will donate $1 to their local United Way to help food banks, food pantries, Meals On Wheels and other charitable organizations dealing with hunger in their respective county.
