ATLANTIC PARENT ORGANIZATION SPONSORS CIBER ETHICS EDUCATION MEETING
(Atlantic) The Atlantic Community Schools parents organization is hosting a meeting tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. in the high school media center to discuss CIBER ethics. Atlantic high school Principal Heather McKay says a component of that is CIBER Bullying, and the numbers of incidents are growing with the use of text messaging, face book, and MySpace.
McKay says it is the schools responsibility to educate people on how it applies in a school setting even though it takes place 99.5-percent of time off school grounds it is still brought into the schoolhouse.
McKay says posting a derogatory statement on someone facebook wall, using vulgar language, derogatory settings, statements, threats and pulling in other people are just a few examples. Cory Larsen, the schools resource officer, will be on hand to address the legal ramifications and inform parents of the serious consequences as the result of CIBER bullying.
That meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow evening at the High School Media Center.
