(Cedar Falls) A pipe bomb discovered in a Cedar Falls neighborhood was safely detonated by a bomb squad Tuesday.
Police Chief Jeff Olson says the bomb was found by public works employees who were clearing storm drains. They found the bomb underground and removed it, then realized it was potentially dangerous and alerted Police just after 8:00 a.m.
Authorities evacuated the 2300 block of Royal Drive for over three-hours as a robot picked the bomb up from a yard and transported it across the street to another yard where sandbags had been set up so it could be safely detonated.
Officials say the device was P-V-C with tape on both ends and metal components.
