(Des Moines) An Official who helps plan the Hy Vee Triathlon including security says he was just talking to the director of the Boston Marathon just this past month about security plans for the race Monday where two explosions ripped through the finish line as participants were still crossing it. Michael Zimmerman works out of the Hy Vee offices in West Des Moines and says they so all they can to protect participants and spectators.
“You go to great lengths to make sure that when you are bringing in people, when it has as much publicity that it does and not all 5K and 10K in town and around the country has the financial means to do this,” stated Zimmerman.
Zimmerman says there will be lessons to be learned from the incident in Boston that could help strengthen security measures in the future for events such as the Hy Vee triathlon.
