(HARLAN) This week is National 911 Telecommunicator Week.
Shelby County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Seivert said this is a time to honor the people who operate behind the scene in taking emergency 911 calls and sending help to our citizens.
“You can’t underscore the importance of that initial contact when someone has an emergency,” said Seivert. “The fact that these people are very well trained and versed in what the resources are and how to handle that emergency and able to do so under extreme pressure.”
Seivert encourages everyone to take some time and thank these outstanding individuals.
Seivert said he also encourages the public to support some changing legislation that will increase the ability to receive wireless surcharge. He said they are hoping that by next year being able to receive text through the 911 system will become a reality.
