(PACIFIC JUNCTION) A Pacific Junction man facing 1st Degree Murder charges is set to go to trial in September.
On February 8th, 22 year old Colby Puckett was arrested on 1st Degree Murder charges for the death of 13-month old Aliyanna May. Puckett will go to trial on September 24th, with a pre-trial conference set for September 9th. Puckett is currently free after posting $25,000 cash bond. His pre-trial release conditions include supervision with electronic monitoring, he shall not be around children except for his 17 year old sister and he shall not leave the state of Iowa.
On February 1st, the Mills County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child located at 1101 Lincoln Avenue in Pacific Junction. EMS personnel determined that Aliyanna needed immediate medical attention and she was transported to UNMC by medical helicopter and placed in the pediatric intensive care unit with extensive injuries to her eyes and brain .UNMC staff advised authorities that Aliyanna’s injuries were likely the result of abusive head trauma. Aliyanna May died on February 2nd. Her death was ruled a homicide.
