(Atlantic) The cost to eat lunch at Atlantic Community Schools is going up next year.
Lunch for high school students went from $2.25 to $2.40 per day, Middle School students from $2.20 to $2.35, Schuler Elementary, $2.20 to $2.35, and Washington Elementary, $2.00 to $2.10 per day.
DeeAnn Schreiner, Food Service Coordinator told the board that the reason for the increase is that School Food Service Agencies must annually review their paid lunch equity requirement. When the average paid lunch price is less than the difference between free and paid federal reimbursement rates, the SFA must determine how they will meet the requirement-by increasing their average paid lunch price or providing funds from non-federal sources. Those SFA’s that choose to increase the average paid lunch price must increase the average paid lunch price by a factor of two-percent plus the annual inflation rate.
In other business, substitute teachers will now be paid $125.00 per day, which is an increase of $5.00. Dr. Amstein says this should place Atlantic on the upper end of the pay scale amongst area schools.
