(Atlantic) A Nebraska Educator has accepted the Atlantic Schuler Elementary Principals-slash-Curriculum position. The Atlantic School Board officially approved the hiring Monday night. Atlantic Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Amstein, (pictured) and a committee interviewed seven candidates last Thursday for the job.
“We had a very strong field of internal and external candidates,” stated Amstein. “The young man that I am recommending to you (the school board) is Mr. James Northwick, who is currently the elementary Principal in the Emerson/Hubbard School District in Nebraska.”
Dr. Amstein says Northwick is in his fourth year as an elementary Principal. “In talking with his Superintendent about the job Mr. Northwick has done for the district, the Superintendent said the school was struggling with test scores and since Mr. Northwick has been there the students test scores have consistently shown gains. I believe he has a lot of promise and I believe he has a very strong work ethic which was confirmed by his Superintendent,” said Dr. Amstein. James Northwick is married and has a one-year-old child.
The school board approved the resignations of Steve Blazek, Varsity Boys Basketball coach, Taylor Hastings, Cheerleading Sponsor, Sheila Hayden, National Honor Society Advisor, Michelle McLaren, Junior High Boys Basketball Coach, Pat Allen, Ticket Manager, and Bruce Johnk, High School Ag Teacher.
The board also approved contracts for DeLana Harris, 5th Grade Summer School, Jenny Madsen, 4th Grade Summer School, Laura Namany, FS worker, Emily McLaren, Payroll and Benefits, Andrea Reilly, transfer to 6th grade, and a continued contract to Alyssa Thompson for the 6th grade.
