(Audubon) Siemens Energy has released a statement providing more information about last Friday’s wind turbine malfunction in Audubon County. A blade had reportedly fallen off of an Eclipse Wind Farm turbine.
The statement says the blade broke off near the root and was discovered by a Siemens service technician Friday morning. This is the first time they have experienced an incident affecting a blade of that type. A team of experts has been assembled to examine all facets of the very unusual incident including the production, installation, commissioning, and service of the blade. An exact cause has net yet been reached, but Siemens Energy is committed to conducting a detailed engineering analysis to determine the root cause. They are working with MidAmerican Energy to replace the broken blade.
MidAmerican Energy has reported that no one was injured and that the blade has been removed up from the field.
