(STANTON) A Stanton teen was sent to the hospital following a two vehicle accident in Montgomery County this morning.
The Sheriff’s Office says 16 year old Joey Nicole Volquartsen was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango eastbound on Elliott Street just before 8:00 a.m. As Volquartsen was driving up a hill the sun blinded her vision and she was unable to see that she had crossed over into the on-coming lane. 40 year old Sharmyn Renae Brockshus of Stanton was driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu westbound on Elliott Street, near the intersection with Prairie Street, when she saw Volquartsen’s car coming at her. Brockshus stopped and started honking her horn. Volquartsen’s vehicle struck Brockshus’ vehicle head-on.
Volquartsen placed her vehicle in park and exited the vehicle. The vehicle started to roll back down the hill. Volquartsen attempted to stop it, but was knocked to the ground. The vehicle continued down the hill to the intersection of Broad Ave. The vehicle was stopped when it rolled into a tree and the gear shift was still in park.
Volquartsen was transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. No citations were issued.
