TEMPERATURES IN THE 60'S WILL SOON EXIT LISTENING AREA
(Des Moines) State Climatoligist Harry Hillaker says the documented record high for Atlantic is 66 degrees. The record came in 1913. He says for most locations around the state, the record was set back in 1981 at 70 degrees, but for Atlantic there is no record noted on that date. Hillaker says on average, Iowa will see one day in February that warms up to the 60 degree range. It is a result of a strong wind out of the south that pushes warm air up from the southern plain states. Hillaker says temperatures in the 60's consistently won't come until late March.
