(Atlantic) Twenty-employees from the First Whitney Bank in Atlantic showed up at Robinson’s Hardware store this afternoon with cash in their hands as part of a local promotion called “Cash Mob.”
Paul Gude, President of the First Whitney gave each employee $20.00 cash to spend…
“Obviously they are probably going to spend more than that and we will get a tally at the end of the day and find out what kind of an impact we can have,” stated Gude. “This is all part of the plus five campaign that the chamber came up with two-or-three years ago and I think it was a success. A lot people realized that we can bring some shopping back here in Atlantic and keep those tax dollars here and everybody benefits.”
So what was the reaction of the bank employees when they heard they were each being given twenty-bucks to spend? “Well…a free $20-bucks...of course they liked that and I think our employees for the most part shop local anyway,” said Gude. “It is something they enjoy doing and as a group they get along pretty well so we are having a good time with it today.”
Atlantic Chamber Director Megan Roberts says the First Whitney Bank is setting a great example and she challenges other businesses to jump on board with the “cash mob” idea.
Roberts says the chamber will be publicizing the cash mob events every month.
