(Harlan) Outdoor burning season is upon us and the Shelby County Emergency Services Association wants Shelby County residents to know the proper procedures when it comes to controlled burns.
The association asks that any planned burning be reported to the Emergency Management Office.
EMA Coordinator Bob Seivert says Shelby County residents have done a good job in the past when to comes to reporting a controlled burn.
"The chief advantage is reducing the number of dispatches of our volunteer fire departments for events that they don't really need to respond to."
When you call to report a burn you will be for the size of the project as well as a stop and start time.
Fire Danger Ratings will be posted at www.shelbycountyema.com. On days when the Fire Danger Rating is in the extreme category, any outdoor burning will be extinguished unless a permit or waivers has been signed by the local fire chief.
