(Des Moines) On a party line vote Tuesday, the Iowa Senate approved their version of education reform. Red Oak Senator Joni Ernst, ranking Republican on the Senate Education Committee, acknowledged the Senate will have another chance to deal with the education issue.
“I think we can find a viable solution for Iowans,” stated Ernst. “I think our student achievement will increase, I think we will have the best teachers put in place out there and I think we will have the appropriate support in place for those teachers. Are we there yet, maybe not, but I know we are going to come together and discuss this even further.”
Ernst voted no on the Education Reform Bill that passed 25-23 on a party line vote.
Ottumwa Senator Mark Chelgren expressed his concern for the bill saying there is no proposal for school reform that really addresses the concerns about Iowa’s classrooms.
