(Denison) The former Denison Fire Chief will serve time for mis-spending fire department funds.
Mike McKinnon was sentenced to 10-years in prison Monday for spending nearly $96,000 worth of fire department funds, for his personal use. In January McKinnon pleaded guilty to a charge of 1st degree theft in exchange a charge of felonious misconduct in office was dropped. A state audit determined that the funds were spent between 2005 and 2010.
According to the Omaha World Herald, McKinnon offered an apology to the court promising to repay what was stolen, but District Court Judge Jeffrey Poulson handed down the prison term, despite McKinnon’s apology.
