EXIRA OFFERS TEACHERS EARLY RETIREMENT
(Exira) The Exira School Board is offering a teacher early retirement package. Exira/EHK Superintendent Dean Schnoes says the board discussed it at their meeting last night and decided to fine-tune it, throw it out to the teachers, and sees what kind of feedback they get.
“The proposal takes the number of unused sick days divided into two equal payments and spread out the payment over a two year period,” stated Schnoes.
For an educator to be eligible they must be a full time employee with 15-years of service in the district and must have the age of 55 to go along with that.
Schnoes says, there will be a time-line on the application.
"The incentive money will be taken out of the management fund which could effect next years budget,” said Schnoes. “So we are asking those interested to have their applications back by the beginning of March so we can certify our budget for the next school year.”
In other business, The board approved the 2011-2012 school calendar for Exira/EHK’s first year of whole grade sharing. The first day of school will be in the middle of August and the last day of school is projected around the middle of May.
