DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY DATA SHOWS IMPORTANCE OF SEAT BELTS
(Des Moines) Preliminary data from The Iowa Department of Public Safety shows that 76% of fatalities on Iowa roadways so far this year have come as a result of not wearing a seat belt. That’s over 44% higher than the five average of just less than 32%. The data also shows that 93% of Iowans do wear seatbelts when traveling on the interstates and highways. In January alone, 21 lives were saved by the use of a seatbelt in Iowa.
