(RED OAK) One person was injured in a fire that destroyed a home near Red Oak Monday afternoon.
Red Oak Fire Chief James Blount said they were called to 1296 C Avenue at around 2:34 pm where a fire had started in a bedroom and was spreading.
“Crews arrived a short time later to find a two-story residential structure with heavy fire and smoke from the second floor,” explained Blount. “Immediately we encountered one of the occupants from the house who had suffered minor injuries. That occupant was an adult and was transported to an area hospital for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.”
Blount said it took about 1 to 1 ½ hours to get the fire under control and extinguished. He said the home was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the city of Red Oak and the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
The Red Oak Fire Department was assisted by the Elliott, Griswold and Henderson Fire Departments.
