(COUNCIL BLUFFS) Special Olympics Iowa is hosting a Polar Plunge in Council Bluffs on March 23rd as a fundraising event with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Iowa to continue providing year-round sports training and competition to nearly 11,000 Iowans with intellectual disabilities.
Participants will jump into the lake in groups of 10 or more. Participants can either recruit a team or be placed on a team the day of the Plunge. When a “plunger” raises a minimum of $75 in pledges they receive an official polar bear long-sleeve T-shirt and admission to the catered post-plunge party. The more money a plunger raises, the more prizes they receive. Special prizes will be given to the Plunger who raises the most money, the team with the best costume and the Plunger with the best costume.
You can register online and start raising money at www.firstgiving.com/soiowa. If you are too chicken to take the plunge you can register as a chicken and raise pledges to receive your chicken t-shirt and incentive and then watch the plunge. Prizes will also be awarded to the chicken that raises the most money.
The Polar Plunge will take place at noon on March 23rd at Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs.
You can also pre-register on Friday, March 22nd from 7 to 9 pm and Saturday, March 23rd from 9 to 11 am at Barleys (114 W. Broadway). Registration will take place onsite at the Council Bluffs Country Club at 10:45 am on Saturday, March 23rd.
