(STANTON) Friends of Stanton Iowa announced today the construction of the all New Viking Center will begin around the 1st of April and a projected grand opening will take place in December.
Mickey Anderson, Co-Chairperson of Stanton Friends, said the two-story Viking Center will include a public library, preschool, multi-purpose community room with a catering kitchen, health and wellness facility, gymnasium and a FEMA approved storm shelter with generator in case of severe weather or a disaster in the community.
“It’s been about four or five years since we’ve been raising funds, we’ve raised about 3.2 million dollars,” said Anderson. “We’ve had over 400 families, residents, alumni, businesses and foundations who have given towards the capital campaign and I would just like to thank the people that have given to this project, it’s been truly amazing.”
Anderson said the committee is still pursuing gifts for some of the interior amenities and gym equipment. He said they will also be doing a small capital campaign for a memorial wall in the library.
