(Atlantic) Atlantic High School Activities Director Josh Rasmussen appeared in front of the School Board Monday night to discuss adding Bowling, Swimming, Archery and possibly a dance team to the list of activities.
“The one thing I want to do is take care of the programs we have right now, that’s number one,” stated Rasmussen.” We are going to steal students away from other programs, and when I took the survey I asked the question, will you drop a sport in order to do this. I weigh a lot on that question, because I don’t want to lose kids. We already have problems with numbers, so that is my number one concern.”
Rasmussen said, “I don’t think we have the number of kids for us to maintain the level of play that a lot of people want us to be at. It is a big commitment.”
Out of the four sports discussed, Rasmussen says Bowling is the one he might be in favor of because according to the survey, students who currently aren’t participating in other activities were interested in Bowling. He says if he can get those students involved, it would help them out in the classroom.
