HOUSE PASSES MARRIAGE AMENDMENT
(Des Moines) The Iowa House passed the Iowa marriage amendment (62-37) this afternoon. All Republican’s voted for the amendment to begin the process of allowing Iowans a chance to vote on a constitutional ban on same sex marriages. This is the reason why Griswold Republican Representative Jack Drake voted “yes?”
“The people opposed to this felt it was taking the rights away from other people and those in favor want the people to decide whether they want it in the constitution,” stated Drake.
Three Democrats voted for the amendment including Dan Muhlbauer of Carroll. Senate majority leader Michael Gronstal has vowed to keep it from the floor in his chamber.
