(State) The governor’s budget proposal allots $1,000,000 for Lake Restoration Projects.
The $1,000,000 allotment is a dramatic decrease from previous years.
“Some of the funding we have gotten in the past has been around 8.6 million in five of the last eight years and around $5-6 Million in the other three years so it's been averaging around $7 Million for about the last seven years.”
Chris Larson, Fisheries Supervisor, says it would force the DNR to make some major changes.
“A lot of projects are going to be slowing down. New projects are not going to be started. Projects like Prairie Rose will be put on hold. With all the projects we have going on around the state we have to re-prioritize what will happen where. There's just not enough money to go around with that short of a budget, so we'll have to see what happens from here.”
