(Washington, D.C.) Senator Tom Harkin says there maybe some congressional pushback to the Postal Service’s decision this week to stop Saturday mail delivery in August. Harkin says Congress will have to see if the Postal Service has the authority to eliminate service.
“I was listening to Senator Susan Collins from Maine, and she doesn’t think this is legal,” stated Harkin. “And the more I think about I don’t think they have the authority to do that.”
Harkin says there are other ways that the Postal Service can erase its budget shortfall. He says Congress should reverse its decision years ago that required them to pre-fund their pension plan. And he says there are other revenue possibilities.
