USE CAUTION WITH SPACE HEATERS TO AVOID FIRE RISK
(Atlantic) As the temperature drops, the use of space heaters often rises and Atlantic fire chief Mark McNees says to use them effectively you should never leave them running while you are not home. Also make sure you are awake when they are on and keep clothing and other items away from the space heater. Another fire risk with space heaters is the amount of electricity they use. A simple extension cord could easily melt and result in fire when a space heater is plugged into them. It is safest to plug them directly into the wall and if you can, make sure that they are all that you have plugged in.
