(Atlantic) Atlantic City Administrator Doug Harris shared some information to the City Council Wednesday night that caused a little stir.
“Steve Tjepkes from AMU and their new finance director came in to report that their board has approved increasing the billing fee for our sewer bill that is included in their water and electric bill,” stated Harris. “They had been charging us .10-cents per month, and that will increase to $1.00 per month.”
Which Harris says will raise the annual billing cost for the city from $3700.00 to around $37,000.00 effective January 1, of this year.
Atlantic Mayor Dave Jones wasn’t too happy about that. “So what they are saying is that their new billing system that they just put out increased their costs by that much? I think they should recalculate.”
Harris was told that AMU’s cost would be more like $1.60 if they allocated one-third, one-third, one-third.
Atlantic City Councilman Shawn Shouse said, “It is probably not an unreasonable fee, it is just a hard pill to swallow when it goes up by a factor of ten.”
“It’s uncalled for, that’s my opinion,” restated Jones.
Steve Livengood says the solution would be to pay the dollar or the council send out its’ own bills? Harris agreed they could look at other options.
