(Harlan) Last weekend it was announced that Harlan would be the first overnight stop for RAGBBRAI 2013. Riders will pedal from Council Bluffs into Harlan on Sunday night, July 21. This is the sixth time Harlan has been selected as an overnight stop for the Des Moines Register’s Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. So organizing for the large number of people is nothing new for them.
Harlan Chamber Director Dawn Cundiff admits it takes a lot of work and yes it is a big job. “But we have so many people that get involved in it and love it…so that is the easy part,” stated Cundiff. “The city and all of our organizations do a great job so it is a big team effort and that is the beauty of it.”
“And RAGBRAI is a good tourism event and showing off what Harlan has to offer,” said Cundiff. "It is also good to see the dollars come in which is great for any town.
The last time Harlan hosted the event was in 2008. Before that they hosted overnight stops in 1976, 1983, 1994, 2000.
